Are you an avid amateur musician looking for an opportunity to connect with other musicians who share your passion? The TSM Academy – Community Program is where you can hone your skills and spend a fun week with the artists of the TSM Festival!
The TSM Academy – Community Program is focused on providing learning and performance opportunities for advanced adult amateur musicians. We aim to provide an experience that deepens the participants relationship with music in their daily lives. Community Program participants can choose from three streams: Chamber Choir, Chamber Music, and the Piano Masterclass. For one week each summer, you can rehearse and perform with professional musicians, attend workshops and masterclasses, and Festival concerts.

Chamber Music
The Chamber Music program is the perfect place for instrumental amateurs seeking a high-level music-making experience. Participants are placed in ensembles with professional musicians for a week of intensive rehearsing, coachings, and camaraderie. This program is open to strings, winds, brass, and pianists (both individuals and pre-formed ensembles are welcome to apply). Limited spots available!

Chamber Choir
The Chamber Choir is a chance to refresh vocal skills and study inspiring works of choral literature in the intimacy of a chamber vocal ensemble. Aside from daily choir rehearsals, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy sectionals with various vocal coaches. The week will culminate with a performance on the final day of the Festival.
Spend a week singing and rehearsing the following works with fellow choral enthusiasts:
Mozart – Vesperae solennes de confessore
Duruflé – Ubi caritas
Dan Forrest – Ubi caritas
Konysky and Lysenko – Prayer for Ukraine
NEW THIS SUMMER: Choristers will be treated to a seminar and sing-along session with Nordic Voices, one of the world’s preeminent vocal ensembles known for their exquisite approach to Renaissance repertoire as well as their mastery of extended contemporary vocal techniques. During this seminar, you’ll have the chance to join in a collective reading of an early music masterwork.
The 2022 Chamber Choir will be led by the Director of Choral Studies at the University of Toronto, Dr. Jamie Hillman.

Piano Masterclass
The Piano Masterclass is a chance to improve your skills and explore the limitless repertoire for solo piano! This program features daily masterclasses, individual lessons, and guest instructors at the highest level. Spend an exciting week studying with renowned pianist!
The 2022 Piano Masterclass will be led by renowned pianist Philip Chiu.

Typical Daily Schedule
9:30am-11:30am – Rehearsals, masterclasses, coachings
11:30am-1:00pm – Lunch
1:00pm-4:00pm – Rehearsals, masterclass, coachings, Festival events
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be over 18 years of age. This program is intended for advanced amateurs* intent on improving their skills with a rigorous daily schedule of rehearsals, coachings, and masterclasses.
*The Community Program is geared towards adult amateur musicians and is not recommended for students currently enrolled in a music degree at a university/college.
