Community Program

Are you an avid amateur musician looking for an opportunity to connect with other musicians who share your passion?  The TSM Academy – Community Program is where you can hone your skills and spend a fun week with the artists of the TSM Festival! 

The TSM Academy – Community Program is focused on providing learning and performance opportunities for advanced adult amateur musicians.  We aim to provide an experience that deepens the participants relationship with music in their daily lives.  Community Program participants can choose from three streams:  Chamber Choir, Chamber Music, and the Piano Masterclass.  For one week each summer, you can rehearse and perform with professional musicians, attend workshops and masterclasses, and Festival concerts. As a benefit of the program, you will receive a complimentary to 5 festival concerts of your choice!

Choose from one of three streams: 

Chamber Music 

The Chamber Music Program is the perfect place for instrumental amateurs seeking a high-level music-making experience. Participants are placed in ensembles with professional musicians for a week of intensive rehearsing, coaching, and camaraderie. At the end of the week, participants are invited to share their music in a series of performances on the last day of the Festival. 

This program is open to strings, winds, brass, and pianists (both individuals and pre-formed ensembles are welcome to apply). Limited spots are available!

Applications for the Chamber Music Program are now closed.
Chamber Music applicants will be notified of their acceptance status by Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir is a chance to refresh vocal skills and study inspiring works of choral literature in the intimacy of a chamber vocal ensemble. Aside from daily choir rehearsals led by Kathleen Allan, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto, you will also enjoy sectionals with various vocal coaches. The week will culminate with a performance on the final day of the Festival. 

Spend a week singing and rehearsing exciting works with fellow choral enthusiasts! Featured repertoire includes Vivaldi’s Gloria, and additional works by Palestrina, Brahms, Andrew Balfour, and more.

Applications are due on Thursday, June 27th, 2024.
Chamber Choir applicants will be notified of their acceptance status at the end of each month.


Piano Masterclass

The Piano Masterclass welcomes pianists looking to improve their skills and explore the limitless repertoire for solo piano! This program offers daily masterclasses for a small group of pianists, and every pianist is offered the opportunity to perform on the final day of the Festival. 

Enjoy an exciting week of working on solo piano repertoire of your choice with world-renowned pianist, Philip Chiu

Applications are due on Thursday, June 27th, 2024.
Piano Masterclass applicants will be notified of their acceptance status within two weeks of submitting an application.

Chamber Music: $1,000.00 + HST
Chamber Choir: $700.00 + HST
Piano Masterclass: $1,000.00 + HST

Typical Daily Schedule 

9:30am-12:00pm – Rehearsals, masterclasses, coachings 
12:00pm-1:00pm – Lunch 
1:00pm-4:00pm – Rehearsals, masterclass, coachings, Festival events 
4:00pm onwards – Festival events and concerts

Who Can Apply 

Applicants must be over 18 years of age.  This program is intended for advanced amateurs* intent on improving their skills with a exciting daily schedule of rehearsals, coachings, and masterclasses. 

*The Community Program is geared toward adult amateur musicians and does not accept applications from students currently enrolled in a music degree at a university/college.
