Yoanna Haeun Jang is an 18-year-old Canadian violinist whose artistry reflects both intellect and heart. Currently piloting a joint program between the Glenn Gould School and the University of Toronto, she has had the unique opportunity to pursue her two passions for music and healing. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA, she studies Life Sciences at the University of Toronto with aspirations of pursuing neuroscience, while studying violin under Barry Shiffman at the Glenn Gould School.
Over the years, Yoanna has earned numerous accolades, including First Prize at the Canadian Music Competition, and has performed in masterclasses for distinguished musicians such as Paul Kantor and Jinjoo Cho. A graduate of the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy, where she was a full scholarship recipient supported by the Temerty Foundation, she made her solo debut in Koerner Hall as a prizewinner of the Academy Concerto Competition. She also served as concertmaster of the Academy Chamber Orchestra.
Yoanna has performed with several orchestras, including the Burlington Symphony Orchestra and the Burlington New Millennium Orchestra. Her past teachers include Dr. Conrad Chow, with whom she studied for many years under his outstanding mentorship.
Deeply passionate about both music and medicine, Yoanna has dedicated herself to performing biweekly at her local hospital for many years and regularly visits retirement and care homes to share her music with residents. She remains committed to finding meaningful ways to bridge her twin passions for healing and the arts.
