Hometown: Seoul, South Korea

Sungmin Cho, a violinist from Seoul, graduated from Seoul Arts High School and is currently studying with Professor David Chan at The Juilliard School, where he also received his Bachelor’s degree under Professors Ronald Copes and Joseph Lin in 2024. He made his solo concert debut at age 13 under the auspices of the Kumho Prodigy Concert Series for Gifted Youth. 

Over the years, he has gained extensive solo experience, winning prestigious competitions such as the 2024 Princess Astrid International Music Competition, 58th Dong-A Music Competition, 27th KBS KEPCO Music Competition, 26th Sung Jung Music Competition (Grand Prize), 38th Music Association of Korea Competition, Seoul Youth Chamber Music Competition, and the Art Sylvia Chamber Music Audition. 

He has actively performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras including the Trondheim Symphony, North Czech Philharmonic, Yamagata Symphony, Seoul Symphony, Szolnok Symphony, Korea Arts Philharmonic, Kyungbook Symphony, and Savaria Symphony Orchestra. His performances have taken place at major venues such as Dvořák Rudolfinum Hall, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Seoul Arts Center, Kumho Art Hall, Samsung Electronics Art Hall, Gyeonggi Arts Center, and Hitachi Systems Hall. 

Every summer, Cho appears in numerous international music festivals, including the Verbier Festival, Taipei Music Academy and Festival, Domaine Forget, and the Cambridge International String Academy. He has worked with leading musicians in masterclasses and chamber music, including Rodney Friend, György Pauk, Pavel Vernikov, Kyoko Takezawa, Gérard Poulet, Cho-Liang Lin, Koichiro Harada, and Vadim Gluzman.
