Sooyeon Baik is a South Korean pianist who has performed across Europe, the United States, and Korea. As a collaborative musician, she has appeared at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, St. James Piccadilly, and the Barbican in London with her duo partners. In 2024, she was honoured with the Jubilee Accompaniment Prize and the Franz-Schubert-Institut Lieder Prize, earning a full scholarship to the Franz-Schubert-Institut’s summer programme.
Passionate about contemporary music, Sooyeon has performed Bruno Maderna’s Honeyrêves at the BBC Total Immersion series and Eleanor Alberga’s Tiger Dream in Forest Green at the Guildhall School’s chamber music festival. With a diverse repertoire spanning art song, chamber music, and contemporary works, she is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma in collaborative piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama under Julius Drake and Carole Presland, supported by the Leverhulme Arts Scholarship.
Before moving to London, she was completing a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Cincinnati, where she also earned her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in solo piano (magna cum laude) with a full scholarship, studying with Soyeon Kate Lee, Eugene Pridonoff, and Elisabeth Pridonoff. During her doctoral studies, she pursued a secondary focus in vocal collaborative piano with Kenneth Griffiths, inspiring her move to London to expand her experience and deepen her artistry.
Beyond the piano, Sooyeon is a passionate wine enthusiast and co-founder of Les Papilles Musicales, a concert series based in London and Rouen, France that pairs classical music with fine wines.
