Renata Cardoso

Trumpet

Renata Cardoso is a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s trumpet section. In addition to her work with the T.S.O., Renata has been an invited guest of the Canadian Women’s Brass Collective; she has been invited to perform with numerous North American orchestras, has been a soloist with the Canadian Chamber Orchestra & OPUS Chamber Music, and has performed as principal trumpet with the Orquestra XXI in Portugal. Renata has twice won positions with the prestigious European Union Youth Orchestra. In 2021, she was a First Prize winner of the World Trumpet Society’s “Daniel Patrylak Memorial Solo Competition.” Renata is a past participant of the Gulbenkian Orchestra’s Summer Fellowship program and a recipient of a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship for international study. Dedicated to teaching, Renata has worked with students at the Glenn Gould School, University of Toronto, and Western University.  Renata is a strong advocate for music education and has recently been appointed to the faculty of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra. A native of Coimbra, Portugal, Renata received her Bachelor’s degree from the Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon, Portugal, and continued her studies with Barbara Butler and Charles Geyer at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
