Born in 1999, Italian countertenor Nicolò Balducci is quickly establishing himself on the international concert and opera stages, garnering praise for “singing with a sense of enjoyment and freedom” (Opera Wire, USA) and his “crystalline timbre… the athleticism of his coloratura is enviable” (Gramophone Magazine).

Highlights in 2024/25 include debuts as Ulisses in Porpora’s Iphigenia in Aulis (Bayreuth Baroque Festival) and as Arbace in Mozart’s Mitridate (Opéra de Lausanne, Opéra de Montpellier). On the concert stage, he will appear together with Arsenale Sonoro in da Vinci’s Oratorio per la Madonna de Rosario at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and return to Chateau de Versailles with Handel’s Messiah and his opera Sosarme, re di media, also recorded on CD. He will sing Nerone in Monteverdi’s L‘Incoronazione di Poppea in France and Canada with Cappella Mediterranea and Leonardo García-Alarcón, as well as Arzane in Vivaldi’s Arsilda with La Cetra and Andrea Marcon in concerts in Amsterdam, Santander, and Madrid. Furthermore, he will debut at the Haendel Festspiele Halle and the Festival Resonanzen in Vienna, and return to the Ravenna Festival.

Last season, Nicolò Balducci gave his role and house debut as Lucio Cinna in Lucio Silla (Landestheater Salzburg), and his house debuts as Nerone in L’incoronazione di Poppea (Oper Köln, Opéra de Toulon). He gave role debuts as Gilbert in Roméo et Juliette by Zingarelli and Imeneo in Gloria e Imeneo by Vivaldi, Nerone in a concert version of Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, and concerts of Handel’s Messiah, all at Château de Versailles. In addition, he sang Morte Eterna in Draghi’s oratorio Il Dono della Vita eterna at Festival d’Ambronay, conducted by Leonardo García Alarcón, Arzane in Vivaldi’s Arsilda with La Cetra and Andrea Marcon in concert in Basel, and returned as Fama in Conti’s Il trionfo della Fama to the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik.

Further engagements include Nerone in L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Osmino in La fida ninfa by Vivaldi at the Innsbrucker Festwochen, and Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara.

In 2021, whilst still studying, he made his operatic debut at Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, singing Oberto in Alcina, conducted by Andrea Marcon and broadcast on TV Rai 5. In 2022, he performed Cavalli’s Xerse at the Festival della Valle d’Itria under Federico Maria Sardelli, and the solo part in Arvo Pärt’s Stabat Mater on tour throughout Europe with La Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini. The same year, he started his collaboration with recorder virtuoso Dan Laurin and harpsichordist Anna Paradiso (Dolci Affetti Ensemble) and the Baroque Academy Gothenburg Symphony.
