Jiyu Oh is a South Korean violinist currently studying with Prof. Soovin Kim at the New England Conservatory of Music. Her most recent highlights include performances in Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops, in NEC’s Jordan Hall for Walnut Hill in Boston, and Salon Virtuosi Concert in New York. She has won numerous competitions, such as 1st place in the BSO Fidelity Competition, Concord Young Artist Competition, NEC Prep Concerto Competition, and Jack Kent Cooke Award from NPR’s From the Top. She has participated at the Chamber Music Northwest Young Artist Institute, Morningside Music Bridge, New York String Orchestra Seminar, and Music@Menlo.
Having previously studied in the NEC Preparatory School and Walnut Hill School for the Arts, Jiyu was the concertmaster of the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (YPO) and is an alumnus of the Chamber Music Intensive Performance Seminar (CHIPS). Some of her previous performances are Walnut Hill 50th Anniversary at Rockport, “A Night at the Museum” in Calderwood Hall, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Music for Food Concert at the Goethe Institut. She has participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians namely Midori, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Ben Beilman, Donald Weilerstein, Miriam Fried, Ronald Copes, Gregory Kalinovsky, Wayne Lin, Mikyung Lee and Wonhee Bae.
