Recognized as “one of the most unique voices of his generation in Canada and the United States” (Music Performance Trust Fund, 2023), pianist Emmanuel Roberts Dugal stands out as a versatile and passionate musician.
A laureate of numerous competitions, Emmanuel has distinguished himself at the Concours de la Capitale in Quebec City, the Festival-Concours de Sherbrooke, and, more recently, the Auguste-Descarries Piano Competition. In 2019, he won Third Prize at the National Finals of the Canadian Music Competition in Calgary. In 2022, he won the OMNI Competition, allowing him to perform Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with the Orchestre Métropolitain under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
Emmanuel refines his artistry with renowned masters such as Bertrand Chamayou, Robert Levin, and Ronan O’Hora in piano, as well as Nicholas Mann, Seth Knopp, and Natasha Brofsky in chamber music. In 2024, he attended the Schubert Institute in Baden (Austria), where he studied German lieder with Helmut Deutsch, Julius Drake, and Roger Vignoles. A sought-after collaborative pianist, Emmanuel has been dedicated to vocal accompaniment and the interpretation of mélodies and lieder. Coming from a family of musicians, Emmanuel began playing the piano at the age of eight. At 10, he was admitted to Suzanne Goyette’s class at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. He is currently pursuing his studies under the guidance of Stéphane Lemelin at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. His studies are supported by prestigious scholarships, including those from the Jeunesses Musicales Foundation (2024), the Desjardins Foundation (2024), and the Music Performance Trust Fund (2023).
