Hailing from Montreal, Canadian violist David Montreuil began his musical journey as a violinist before falling in love with the viola while in university. Throughout the years, he has had the opportunity to attend the Aspen Music Festival, the McGill International String Quartet Academy, the Schiermonnikoog Music Festival, the Netherland String Quartet Academy and the New York String Orchestra Seminar. David was the winner of the 2023 Golden Violin Award and was a semi-finalist in the 2022 & 2023 Prix d’Europe Competition. 

Since 2022, David has been a member of the Stelios String Quartet, an ensemble founded with three of his friends from the Schulich School of Music. The quartet has worked closely under the guidance of André Roy. They have also received coaching from esteemed pedagogues such as Gerhard Schulz, Valentin Erben, Mathieu Herzog, David Finckel, Luc-Marie Aguera and Marc Danel. The Stelios Quartet won the 2023 McGill Chamber Music Competition and was a semi-finalist in the 2023 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.  

David holds a Bachelor’s degree, a Graduate diploma, and a Master’s degree in Viola Performance from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music where he studied with André Roy. He was the recipient of a Lloyd Carr-Harris scholarship (2018), the MacLeannan String Graduate Award (2019) and the Student Excellence Fellowship (2019). He is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma.
