Chris Yunran Peng is a versatile musician, acclaimed as a pianist, chamber musician, and baritone. He has performed extensively in Europe, North America, and Asia. Born and raised in Chongqing, China, Peng is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music in Collaborative Piano at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music under Kyoko Hashimoto and Michael McMahon. His unique background as both a pianist and baritone has deepened his artistic insight, revealing the mutually enriching relationship between these two disciplines.
A recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, Peng’s accolades include the Graduate Excellence Fellowship, Zoya Solod Memorial Scholarship, Mildred Largie Award, Tsung Cho-Chang Education Scholarship (Taiwan), and the Trek Excellence Scholarship.
As a chamber musician, Peng’s playing has been praised as “extremely delicate” by Hualong Press. He was a finalist in the 2024 McGill Chamber Music Competition with his piano trio. Peng has been selected for prestigious festivals in North America and Europe, including Bowdoin International Festival as a Collaborative Fellow and Castleman Quartet Program as a Collaborative Intern, and he has made frequent appearances at the International Music Workshop and Festival in Kirchberg, Germany. He also serves as an official accompanist at McGill University. In the summer of 2024, he toured China with cellist Shaofeng Li. Peng has received guidance from chamber masters, including pianist Enrico Pace, cellist Sung-Won Yang, and violinists Violaine Melançon, Jinjoo Cho, and Helge Slaatto.
As a solo pianist, Peng has graced prestigious stages such as the Gijón Piano Festival in Spain, Orford Musique Festival, and Domaine Forget in Quebec. He has studied with master pianists, including Robert Levin, Robert McDonald, Julian Martin, Jose Ramon Mendez, and André Laplante.
