Mezzo-Soprano

Hometown: Edmonton, Alberta

Alla Salakhova is a mezzo-soprano from Edmonton, Alberta. She recently completed a B.Mus. in Voice Performance degree at the University of Alberta, where she studied with two-time Juno-nominated artist, Miriam Khalil. As the 2023-24 Concerto Competition Winner, she performed Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the University Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, she was the U of A student finalist in Edmonton Opera’s inaugural Rumbold Vocal Prize. Alla is the recipient of The Johann Strauss Foundation’s Scholarship and is looking forward to studying at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg this August. 

Some of her previous role credits include Orphée in Orphée aux enfers, Petermann in Monsieur Choufleuri, and Mrs. Northwind in the Canadian premiere of The Enchanted Pig (UofA Opera Theatre). As well as The Secretary in The Consul and Drusilla in L’incoronazione di Poppea for which she was praised by Opera Canada for having the “presence of a seasoned performer” (Opera NUOVA). Along with performing opera, Alla is also an active interpreter of art songs and chamber works. 

Alla was a member of the Edmonton Opera Chorus and performed in Carmen, Tosca, Don Giovanni, and Orphée+. With the support from the Association for Opera in Canada’s Opera Artist Resilience (OAR) Program, she was also able to role-study the titular role of Orphée as well as gain experience in administration through a mentorship with Edmonton Opera. Alla looks forward to joining the Maryland Opera Studio this fall, where she will be pursuing a Master of Music in Opera Performance degree.
