Introducing our Mainstage Artists: countertenor Fr Introducing our Mainstage Artists: countertenor Franco Fagioli!

"Franco Fagioli is the leading virtuoso countertenor of our time. Renowned as much for his artistry as for the beauty of his voice, spanning three octaves and masterful technique, he is the first countertenor to sign an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. The singer’s relationship with the Yellow Label reflects his status as one of the brightest stars of Baroque and early 19th-century bel canto opera. His solo debut recording for the company, Rossini, with Armonia Atenea and George Petrou, his album of Handel Arias with Il Pomo d’Oro, and his album of spectacular virtuoso arias by Leonardo Vinci, also with Il Pomo d’Oro, have all garnered universal critical acclaim."

Migrations is a musical exploration of why people Migrations is a musical exploration of why people leave their homes to pursue life in a new land, and the reverberating impact it has on future generations. It is an acoustic tribute to the complex but universal human act of migration, weaving lush, mosaic-like dreamscapes with poignant, heartrending lyrics. A suite of music conceptualized by the JUNO Award-winning saxophonist and composer Allison Au (pronounced “ow”), Migrations draws emotion and depth from Au’s family history of immigration to Canada: from Southern China and Malaysia on her father’s side and war-torn Poland and Israel on her mother’s side. She says “Migrations is one of the most important pieces of music I have created because it is so personal. It speaks to my identity as a Canadian born to immigrant parents and delves into subject matter that I previously attempted to articulate, but never found the project through which to do so.” Commissioned by the Royal Conservatory of Music in 2019, Migrations premiered in January 2020 at the 21C Music Festival at Toronto’s Koerner Hall, and was recorded as Au’s fourth studio album in 2022 in Toronto.

Introducing our Mainstage Artists: the conductor o Introducing our Mainstage Artists: the conductor of Opening Night, Leonardo García-Alarcón!

"In just a few years, Argentine conductor, harpsichordist, and composer Leonardo García-Alarcón has become an essential figure, in demand by the greatest musical and operatic institutions, from the Opéra de Paris to the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and the Grand-Théâtre in Geneva, and has even been awarded the ICMA 2025 prize for “Artist of the Year”. After studying piano in Argentina, Leonardo García-Alarcón moved to Europe in 1997 and joined the Geneva Conservatory in the class of harpsichordist Christiane Jaccottet. It is under the guidance of Gabriel Garrido that he begins his career as a baroque musician. In 2005, he created his ensemble Cappella Mediterranea to explore Italian, Spanish, and South American baroque music, a repertoire that has since expanded considerably. In residence at the Ambronay Festival, he had his first successes, notably with the rediscovery in 2010 of an oratorio by Michelangelo Falvetti: Il Diluvio universale. That same year, he took over the direction of the Chamber Choir of Namur, recognized as one of the best baroque choral groups today, and in 2014, he founded the Millennium Orchestra, with which he devotes himself mainly to the works of Handel."

Mary Bevan released her debut solo disc, Voyages, Mary Bevan released her debut solo disc, Voyages, in 2017 (with pianist Joseph Middleton on the Signum label), which explores the music of eminent French composers and the settings they wrote for the poems of Charles Baudelaire. For this recital, Mary revisits her favourite repertoire from Voyages, including songs by Duparc, Fauré, Debussy, Chabrier, and more, but this time, each song is paired with another by a female composer writing around the same time. In this way, the recital seeks to bring the female composers from out of the shadow of their male counterparts and restore them to their rightful places as composers of equal quality and interest.
