Born in Toronto, Ontario, countertenor Christian Masucci-Facchini brings skilled expertise to his extensive background in classical vocal performance. He is an alumnus of St. Michael’s Choir School where he was trained in classical voice, piano and violin. From 2007-2017, Christian has performed as a chorister and soloist internationally across Europe and North America as well as at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica in Toronto. In 2017, he began studying as an undergraduate Music student at York University. There, he performed in numerous recitals, and masterclasses and achieved the first-place title in the York University Concerto Competition. Upon graduating in 2021 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree, Christian was accepted with a full-tuition Sheila K. Piercey Vocal Scholarship to The Glenn Gould School, where he is currently studying as a graduate student of the Artist Diploma Program, with his vocal teacher, Stephanie Bogle and vocal coach, Jennifer Tung. He made his opera debut in March 2022 in the school’s spring production of Handel’s Rinaldo as the title role at the world-renowned stage, Koerner Hall. “The Rinaldo of countertenor Christian Masucci Facchini was excellent, with quite a muscular sound and a real sense of style. He was also an impressive stage presence”(Opera Canada). “In the title role, 22-year-old countertenor Christian Masucci-Facchini is a marvel. Unlike the somewhat hooty and nasal countertenors of the mid-20th century, Masucci-Facchini already has a rich, full voice. He is equally impressive in exuberant arias full of runs such as “Venti, turbini, prestate” as he is in a lovely meditative aria like “Cara sposa, amante cara”. One expects to hear more from him in future”(Stage Door).
